From the very first Classic Fighters Airshow in 2001, we have strived to balance the action in the air with that on the ground. Often recreating past battles from WWI and WW2 and drawing from other significant historical events and pop culture.
Re-enactors and military vehicles from around New Zealand converge at Omaka every two years to participate in these popular scenarios at the airshow. We have it all: cannons, automatic weapons, armoured cars, and armoured personnel carriers. There are no live rounds. Only blank ammunition is used throughout the show.
The intention is not to glorify war but to give a brief glimpse of what it was like back then to ensure the memory of all those brave people lives on. Look through the WW1 and WW2 camp areas to check out some gear and chat with those involved.
About Yealands Classic Fighters Omaka: The airshow is the main fundraising event for the Omaka Aviation Heritage Museum, located in Blenheim, Marlborough NZ.
