This aircraft usually resides in the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre's 'Dangerous Skies' hall, where it impresses visitors 364 days a year. Germany's most potent piston engined fighter for much of the second half of the war, the Fw190 completely disappeared from the world's skies soon after hostilities ended and the type was not seen again in flight for over half a century, many people thinking that it was gone forever as the few survivors were forever tied to national collections. But then in July 2004, after years of endeavour, a newly completed Fw190, built to original plans and using some original parts, took to the skies over Germany once again, in triumphant celebration of this almost forgotten type. Our feature aircraft, Fw190 werk no. 990001, is that very aircraft and so we are extremely fortunate to have it flying here as part of the Omaka flight line. What a treat!
